The Making of ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’

“22 tak padhai, 25 pe naukri, 26 pe chokri, 30 pe bacche, 60 pe retirement aur fir maut ka intezaar.. dhatt.. aisi ghisi piti life thodi jeena chahta hu main..”

We all loved ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ & this dialogue especially because it echoes the thought of every youngster today. But do you know how it all transformed into a beautifully crazymovie? The idea of the film germinated in Ayan’s brain a few days after Wake Up Sid at the wedding of a close friend. According to him, “There’s some sort of deep joy & happiness in that moment which was so much more powerful for me than even having made my first film. That’s when it was born.” But the shooting of the film wasn’t easy. The team faced all kinds of hardships; from rains in Rajasthan to shooting in temperature as low as -7 degrees in Manali. The team when trekking for days to find the perfect location for many iconic scenes in the movie, and as travel was one of the important aspects of the film, Ayan wanted to explore the virgin territories around the world and explore new things in order to capture the perfect experience on celluloid and present it to the audience. Bunny’s character was written in a way such that it reflected Ayan’s real personality as well as every 20 something guy. Almost everything that a person experiences in his/her 20s is packed in this character & the movie, be it ambition, romance, friendship, trying to understand life etc. Ayan states that the first image of Bunny was of a boy walking with a bag pack in a completely foreign land, meeting foreign people & experiencing new things. Naina Talwar, on the other hand, is a homage to all the studious girls whose ideologies are rooted in traditional Indian values. She is the complete opposite of Bunny's character, a yang to Bunny’s Yin. Eventually, what you love and what you strive for, translates on screen with your efforts. The team fought against all the odds & we are glad you all loved & cherished this effort. Thank you! :)
