Romance in the 21st Century...

Time changes everything … In a time not so long ago, passing letters through friends and sneaking out on Sundays, ‘accidentally’ bumping into each other at a social function, were the only means to communicate with the one you love. Today, however, a minute spent on typing ‘where are you’ on your cell phone and you know exactly where he/she is, what are they doing, with who they are and a lot more.
It is these changes in romance that Karan Johar speaks of as his next directorial venture ‘Student Of The Year’ (SOTY) hit the floors three days back. With comparisons being drawn between the blockbuster hit ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Student of the Year’ with regards to the storyline and the young cast, Karan Johar points out, “A lot has changed in the 13 years since we made ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Youngsters won’t connect with bubblegum romance. The overdose of information and constant communication has taken the beauty of romance out of relationships. The innocence is gone too.”
When ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ was released in 1998, Dharma production still adhered to the age-old romance techniques where a boy and a girl could share a passionate dance without any music playing in the background. SOTY is based largely on the modernity of romance and therein lies its true essence. For if things can change drastically in a day then 13 years is definitely a long, long time ago.

Divid Dhawan’s proud moments with son Varun

After Papa Mahesh Bhatt giving his views about his daughter Alia Bhatt’s big release with Dharma productions, big daddy David Dhawan too had some proud moments to share after watching his son Varun Dhawan. Varun gave his first shot for the movie ‘Student of the Year’, starting with a big song with Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra.
Just like Mahesh Bhatt even David Dhawan feels proud of his son, who got a chance to launch himself with a huge banner like ‘Dharma Productions’. He wants his son to learn on his own and prefers not to interfere in his matters. He prefers to let him deal them by his own which will let him grow in the industry.
Looks like the trend in Bollywood is changing, with power house parents letting their star children learn and succeed from scratch. Welcome to Bollywood Alia, Varun and Siddharth!! :)

Mahesh Bhatt will Buy Tickets and watch his Daughter’s Movie

One of the most talked about movies which will release in 2012, ‘Student Of The Year’. The movie stars 3 new comers; Alia, Varun and Siddharth who feature in this movie as debutants!! Varun and Alia are children of David Dhawan and Mahesh Bhatt respectively and Siddharth a newbie to the industry.
Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter who is being launched in the movie ‘Student of the Year’ is looking forward to an explicit debut of his princess.
Mahesh Bhatt who is a film maker himself has worked with Dharma Productions in the past. He had directed the movie ‘Gumrah’ (1993)
The filmmaker with a bagful of hits in the industry believes in paying for the movie ticket and watching his daughter hit the screen with a pride on his face. Hrithik Roshan hits Punit Malhotra for a six

For all those who swear by Dharma movies, here is a trivia that will definitely catch your attention. The scene where Hrithik Roshan hits a six to take his team to victory in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is pretty much set in your mind. The batsman you know too well, but take a close look at the bowler, do you know who he is?
Assistant director of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and the director of the hit romantic-comedy, I Hate Luv Storys – Punit Malhotra – is the one who comes charging in to try and bowl out Hrithik in one of the more emotional moments in the movie.

K3G shall always be remembered as a movie that is made up of a number of touching and poignant scenes that sees the movie develop an emotional bond with the audience.
In fact, Dharma movies have always stood by this theory and almost all of their movies have a gamut of emotions running as the underlying theme – be it ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ or ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ or ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ itself. And Punit Malhotra has played an important role in Dharma movies right since the K3G days, both as an assistant director and as the actor who bowled the final delivery to Hrithik Roshan in ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ to being the director of ‘I Hate Luv Storys’…

Mothers are your Best Friends

Mothers are there with us in our worst and the best times. They would cry with us and for us… they stand by us in our tough times and motivate us to have the best in life. A mother does everything that a friend must ideally do. They compliment us even on our bad hair day and fight for us even against our weakest contenders.

Rahul and Maa portray friendship in the best possible way. Best friends don’t have to speak it out for conveying a message; they feel the happiness and the pain even in each other’s absence.  Distance and time gap puts no difference to the magnitude of this friendship. Rahul jab bhi Maa ke paas aata hai, Maa ko uska ehsaas apne aap ho jaata hai!!  ‘Maa ke haathon se bane laddoo se lekar maa ka aashirwaad’, are filled with love, affection and friendship!! My mother is my best friend… 

A Tribute to Kishore Kumar

On 4th August, 1929, Abhas Kumar Ganguly was born in one of the many provinces in Madhya Pradesh. 82 years later, we celebrate this very day as the birthday of the legend, Kishore Kumar or that of Abhas Kumar Ganguly that was Kishore Da’s birth name.
Kishore Kumar has single-handedly composed one of the most beautiful musical journeys in Bollywood in a career that began just a year before India’s independence i.e. 1946 and lasted until his death in 1987. During these 41 years, Kishore Kumar has had an exceptional career in all aspects of film-making – as an actor, singer, director, musician and producer.
Even in the final leg of his career, Kishore Kumar formed a healthy relationship with Dharma Productions, lending his voice to classics such as ‘Dostana’ (1980), ‘Duniya’ (1984) and ‘Muqaddar ka faisla’ (1987). Muqaddar ka faisla was one of the final movies when people had the chance to tune into Kishore Kumar’s melodious voice. Songs from these movies, such as, ‘salamat rahe dostana humara (Dostana)’, ‘jo hum kaam karte hai’(Muqaddar ka faisla), ‘chhoti si ye duniya’ (Duniya) are ones that shall be remembered mainly for Kishore Da’s easy-on-the-ear and mischievous voice and Dharma Productions have been lucky to have had him on board in the final few years of his career.
And it’s not just Dharma Productions that have been lucky to have worked so closely with him but all the music and film lovers have been equally lucky to be associated with him in some or the other way. This is the day we need to come out and pay tribute to one of the biggest music legends of India – Kishore Kumar!! :)

The ‘Khalnayak’ of khalnayaks

If there were ever to be an award for the ‘Most Enigmatic Anti-hero’ in India, then Sanjay Dutt would definitely be dancing his way away – in his typical ‘Khalnayak’ step – to the trophy. This statement itself shall resonate not only with all of Sanjay Dutt’s fans but with all movie-lovers across the nation.
Having turned 52 years old on 29th July, 2011, he looks his meanest best as he dons the antagonist role of ‘Kancha’ in Agneepath, a Karan Johan production. Sanjay Dutt seems to have discovered new layers to portray as the legendary villain of Agneepath. His rustic look oozing with wickedness has even left director Karan Malhotra and producer Karan Johar astonished, who has in fact seen Sanjay Dutt grow from a chirpy kid to a terrifying Bollywood villain.

As Johar sat to talk about his childhood buddy he slipped into nostalgia saying, “Our fathers (Yash Johar and Sunil Dutt) were good friends. Sanju used to call my father buddha uncle because dad had salt and pepper hair and was partially bald very early in life. Just the other day I was over at his home for dinner and I met his two adorable kids Shahran and Iqra. Sanju was telling his son to call me buddha uncle! It was a very nostalgic moment."

Karan Johar’s new directorial venture hits the floor

‘Kuch kuch hota hai Anjali...tum nahi samjhogi.’ Almost a decade has passed since the ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ or the ‘K2H2’ phenomenon, as it was popularly known back then, swept the nation… and there are still so many of us who swear by the lyrics and dialogues from the movie.
Karan Johar has decided that it’s time to get the nation to swoon to his favourite genre of film making – song and dance once again. And so he has announced that his next directorial venture, ‘Student Of The Year’ is going to hit the floor in two weeks’ time. ‘Rahul, Anjali and Tina’ had become household names back then with ‘KuchKuchHotaHai’ and the cast of ‘Student Of The Year’ – Varun Dhawan (son of David Dhawan), Alia Bhatt (daughter of Mahesh Bhatt) and Siddharth Malhotra shall definitely hope and believe that it is their time in the sun now.
There is a definite buzz about the movie in the air with Karan Johar being quoted to say, “…if I am nervous I wonder what the 3 first timers are feeling??”  Now all that we await is to know the result of this question – The ‘Student of the Year’ award goes to…
